Analysis of the Speech Structure

Hello, my dear readers!

Today I`d like to present you my analysis of the structure of the informative speech about London. In our textbooks we have 7 different speeches on this topic. For the analysis I`ve chosen speech № 4 "London Accents". You can see it below.

Introduction
1. Attention-getter (a chain of questions): Have you ever talked to Londoners? Or have you ever imagined this conversation?
2. Link: I guess you want British people to pronounce words very clearly and slowly! Of course this does not happen in real life.
3. Thesis statement: Londoners are famous for their peculiar accents which are quite different from each other.
4. Preview: Nowadays we can distinguish three main accents I`d like to tell you about: RP, Cockney Accent and Estuary English.
Body
1. Main heading: Received Pronunciation, or RP, is the Standard British accent.
A. Supporting material: It is not a local accent.
a) detail: It can be found in the dictionary.
b) detail: It is the easiest accent for us to understand.
c) detail: Many people try to learn it.
B. Supporting material: Not many people speak with a pure RP accent these days.
a) detail: Even Prince William doesn`t.
b) detail: It sounds rather formal and exclusive.

2. Main heading: Cockney Accent originated in east London.
A. Supporting material: It is often used to refer to working class Londoners in the East End.
B. Supporting material: Visitors to Britain find this accent very hard to understand.
a) detail: Some letters are not pronounced, especially T and H.
b) detail: Some vowel sounds are different
c) detail: It is also famous for its rhyming slang (examples with Auntie Ella = umbrella; Chew the fat = chat).
d) detail: "free" instead of "three" example

3. Main heading: Estuary English was given a name in 1984 (more modern)
A. Supporting material: It is mainly spoken in the areas near the River Thames and its estuary.
B. Supporting material: Estuary English is a widely used mixture of other accents.
a) detail: It has features of both RP and Cockney Accent.
b) detail: It is used by people under 60 years old.
c) detail: It developed as people of different social classes mixed together much more than they used to.
Conclusion
1. Summary: To sum up we spoke about three main accents which take place in Londoners` speech" RP, Cockney Accent and Estuary English.
2. Action and Appeal: The speech of Londoners is full of many accents and dialects which are constantly changing. Knowing as much of them as possible will definitely help you get on well with every person you`ll meet on London streets!

To sum up I want to say that this speech is rather well-organized. The Introduction, Main Body and Conclusion have all the necessary parts. However, I think that the author of this speech could have used more examples of features of different accents. Especially, when he/she talked about Estuary English. The main heading in the third paragraph of the body isn`t clear enough. I would formulate it in another way, emphasizing that Estuary English is more modern than RP and Cockney. Unfortunately, the author didn`t draw a clear picture of the peculiarities of the Estuary English. The whole paragraph about it doesn`t seem very logical to me. There are some random facts about this accent, without any logical plan to present them. This speech is of an informative type, that`s why it should contain more details, examples, explanations. For me this speech seems a bit short and vague. All the mentioned features are widely known, they`re very typical. Maybe the author could have done more research on the topic of accents.
