Challenging Task № 2

Hello again!

Today there will be one more interesting post about overcoming my fears. Do you remember my list of frightening behaviours? If you don`t, you can look through it here http://goldenfreckle.blogspot.ru/2018/03/my-list-of-frightening-behaviours.html

I have already done the first task: to telephone an organization and ask for some information. This week I managed to complete the second task, which is a bit more difficult for me: Come to the English Department in NSPU and initiate a conversation with a professor.

You may ask me why is it difficult for me at all. Actually, I don`t like to bother people or interfere with their work. My Mum is a professor at the university and she always tells me a lot of stories about students who always want something from her and her colleagues. Students especially tend to want all the important information from the professors when the above-mentioned are eating or having their well deserved rest)) And sometimes students even behave very rudely, like they don`t say hello to professors, or don`t knock at the door. I guess that it`s really disturbing, that`s why I don`t really like to come to our department. It`s like intruding on other people`s territory! I prefere to wait for the professor outside or ask all my questions during the double period. But there are some situations when you really need some important information or a key from the classroom right here and right now. And you have to be confident and calm at this very moment. That`s why I decided to place this behaviour in my list.

I decided to do this task during the lunch break. My friend Nastya was observing me)) I tried to be as polite as I could, because I did remember my Mum`s stories)) I didn`t have a definite question to ask, and actually I didn`t know what professor exactly I would talk to)) But I had to perform the task, so I knocked at the door. It was a bit frightening, but it was not as bad as I had expected. I saw Larisa Nikolayevna Kretova there. She seemed to be in a good mood, and that was a success already!) I asked her some information about our curriculum, like when our summer examinations would take place this semester. She answered very politely and friendly and then I said thank you and left the department. I was a bit nervous, but it seemed quite easy to me. Sometimes we have our rights to bother people, but only if we have a true reason and if we are polite enough!

I`m waiting for the next task, I` ll try to make it more interesting for you)) Maybe I`ll attach a photo or a video like a kind of a proof))

See you soon! I hope that next week we`ll have an opportinity to enjoy warm spring weather❤
Bye!

  1. Hey, Ann! From my point of view, this task was very easy for you as you asked Larisa Nikolayevna very polite and friendly. You weren`t nervous at all! May be because for me it would be more difficult to ask someone in the English Department for some information. But you performed it as if you did it one hundred times already:)
P.S. I like your idea about taking some photos or videos as kind of a proof! I think it would make our tasks a bit harder because you should hide a camera from people you`re communicating with somehow :D
