My Speech about Winter Holidays

Hi, everyone!

This post will be a bit unusual, because it contains a video of my first public speech during our course on oratory at the university. It may seem odd, but I really hate watching myself on videos😓 So it`s a little bit stressful)) In this speech I described three photos which I had taken during my winter holidays. 

You may think that it was easy, because we had only 20 seconds for each picture. Actually it was not like that at all! We didn`t have enough time to prepare our speeches properly and also it was the first double period after long holidays at nine o`clock in the morning. So I was not quite ready to speak good English) The first try is not always a lucky one, I guess.

At home we had to evaluate our speeches by bringing out 3 good things about them and 3 drawbacks. 

I`ll start with positive comments:

+ I used gestures (especially a pointing one) to attract attention of the listeners to the photos;

+ I didn`t make long stops during my speech;

+ The tempo of my speech was OK.

Drawbacks:

- My speech was poorly organized (No introduction, no conclusuion, I think, the listeners didn`t understand what theme parties have to do with my winter holidays; bad timing);

- There was not enough eye contact with the listeners (I looked at the screen mostly);

-  My behaviour and body language were very nervous.

In general, I can`t say that I`m satisfied with my speech. There are much more drawbacks than benefits! If I were a listener during such speech, I wouldn`t like it.

Nevertheless, practice makes perfect and I`ll try to make my next speech better. Never give up!
